St Paul’s Youth in Action (SPYiA) caters for 11-18+ age group - (Yrs 7-13).

The annual programme of events includes regular ‘youth club’ nights which involve table tennis; snooker; Wii games; board games and music. These were interspersed with feature evenings of out of the ordinary including a ‘First Aid’ session, a ‘Ready, steady, cook’ evening where groups were given a set of ingredients and had to put them together into a dish. Christmas and Easter Mural’s are designed and painted by the group and was designed. Which in turn forms the basis of a Christmas card for the following year which helps to raise funds for the group.

The group also take an active role in the liturgical life of our parish. The Youth Sunday Mass in November is planned and facilitated by the young people. With the music, drama and bidding prayers being either chosen or written by members of the group.

The highlight of the year is the annual week long youth retreat to Edale during the summer holidays. The retreat is full of laughter, (some) tears, prayer, music and a chance to spend quality time with friends, new and old. This is truly a special week complete with the infamous walk into Castleton from Edale via Mam Tor (the 1,696ft peak) from where the surrounding landscape can be viewed in all its splendour.

The SPYiA evenings are held fortnightly – the dates in the church entrance porch- Thursdays 6.30-8.30 pm in the Parish Hall. All new members welcome. Any adults wanting to help and can spare at least 2 evenings a year please contact Sarah Bedford or Fr Bernard – an enhanced DBS check and induction will be undertaken.
